Konjac Sponge Company

I’m sure a lot of you will have heard about these Konjac Sponges but I thought I’d do a post about my experience with them. I received this Konjac Sponge from the September Souk Souk box and jumped for joy when I saw it! I’d been wanting to try one for weeks and I’m glad I put off buying it. This one is from the Konjac Sponge Company and costs Β£6.99.

The 100% natural sponges are made from the super food Konjac which is actually a potato! When I heard about these I was like WHAAAAT? Why would I rub a potato on my face? HAHA! But then after researching about it I understood it a bit more…

They are cultivated for food in Japan & they have been eating them for over 1500 years. It was actually introduced to Japan as a medicine in the sixth century as it was recognised for its health giving properties. It is a totally naturally food source and 97% of Konjac is water. It is also rich in minerals and very low in calories. For over a century the Japanese have been using the Konjac vegetable as a beauty treatment as it is very alkaline and is packed full of goodness. It contains so many natural ingredients such as iron, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin E, Vitamin D and folic acid as well as loads more so no wonder they’ve been using them to cleanse their faces!

The sponge is hard to start with but you simply run it under warm water and it softens up to a squidgy sponge. I rub it over my face in circular motions for around a minute or so. It actually smells to me like those weird alien jelly things you used to get back in the 90’s that you kept in plastic egg shells that were their ‘home’. Does anybody remember those?! That’s what the smell of the sponge reminds me of haha!

Anyway, it is a quick and easy way to cleanse my face in the mornings and at night. I have been using this in the mornings by itself and then at night I cleanse with my REN Clay Cleanser (review here) and then use this afterwards for an extra cleanse.

The sponge has many benefits including:

  • 100% Natural Sponge
  • Gentle exfoliation
  • 100% Colouring Free
  • 100% Additive Free
  • 100% Biodegradable
  • Naturally Sustainable
  • Environmentally Safe
I have really enjoyed using this sponge as it’s so quick & easy to use so when you can’t be bothered to use cleanser, you can just use this and it does the job! I’m going to try one of their body sponges soon as I have had sensitive skin for a while now and hope that the Pink Clay might help to calm my skin!
Have you tried any Konjac sponges?
